En este escrito se analiza la situación y el uso del tiem-po libre de mexicanos que ingresan al Programa de Trabajadores Agrícolas Temporales en una pequeña población de Canadá, examinándose la formación de parejas “temporales”, la participación en equipos y partidos de futbol y los bailes que se organizan los sába-dos en bares del lugar. Con el estudio del tiempo libre se busca entender la iniciativa de los individuos como agentes sociales, los constreñimientos estructurales que posibilitan o imposibilitan su actuar y uso del tiempo, la toma de decisiones, y las acciones que son permi-tidas en un espacio y tiempo específi cos bajo un siste-ma económico que determina las condiciones laborales, de vivienda, e incluso de interacción de los migrantes

This article analyzes the situation of Mexican migrant laborers registered in the Temporary Agricultural Workers Program, working in a small locality in Canada and how they use their free time. I have analyzed topics like the formation of “temporary” relationships, participation in soccer games and teams and Saturday-night dances in local bars. The analysis of how these migrant workers use their free time seeks to understand the initiative of individu-als as social agents, the structural constraints that allow, or impede, their actions and use of their free time, the exercise of decision-making, and the actions that are permitted in a specifi c space and time in the context of an economic system that determines working condi-tions, housing and even interpersonal interaction
