Audit of State-Owned Enterprises: The Most Relevant Areas of Risk

    El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar los riesgos de auditoría más relevantes en las socieda-des mercantiles estatales y si influyen en los mismos las características de la empresa o del auditor. Para ello se analizan los informes de auditoría de las sociedades estales españolas con objeto de identificar los riesgos puestos de manifiesto por el auditor, diferenciando entre riesgo a nivel de entidad, que es el riesgo de una empresa en general, y el riesgo a nivel con-table, es decir relacionado con elementos de los estados contables específicos. Los resultados constatan que estas entidades presentan, en su gran mayoría, informes sin salvedades y que los aspectos más relevantes pueden verse afectados por el tamaño, la liquidez y la rentabili-dad económica de la entidad, así como por los honorarios que se satisfacen a las sociedades de auditoría

    The aim of this paper is to analyze the most relevant audit risks in state-owned public com-panies and whether they are influenced by the characteristics of the company or the auditor. For this purpose, the audit reports of the Spanish state-owned enterprises are analyzed and the areas of risk are identified, differentiating between risk at the entity level, which is the risk of a company in general, and the risk at the accounting level, related to elements of financial statements. The results show that these entities mostly present unqualified reports and that the most relevant aspects can be affected by the size, liquidity and economic profitability of the entity, as well as by the fees paid to audit companies
