Resumen de La Divergencia Nortanzana (Rift Este Africano): una estructura global de gran valor pedagógico

  El Rift Este Africano es el ejemplo actual más espectacular de un rift intracontinental. Es un fiel reflejo de la dinámica de una o varias plumas mantélicas presentes bajo la superficie de esta región.

  La propagación NS del valle axial, desde el punto triple de Afar, se diversifica al N de Tanzania en 2 (3) brazos que constituyen la Divergencia Nortanzana (DNT). La actividad volcánica a partir de ~ 6 Ma y la tectónica, características del rifting, han condicionado la sedimentación, la variabilidad climática y la geomorfología. La interacción entre ellas además ha supuesto una peculiar evolución del paisaje, así como de la flora y la fauna e incluso del modo de vida de los grupos humanos que se asientan sobre el territorio. Por todo, la DNT constituye un referente de gran valor didáctico, en cuyo marco se desarrolló, en Julio de 2011, el curso práctico de Ciencias de la Tierra: Expedición al Gran Rift organizada por la AEPECT (Asociación Española para la Enseñanza de la Geología).

  The East African Rift is the most spectacular recent example of an intracontinental rift. It is a true reflection of the dynamics of one or more mantle plumes present under the surface of this region. The NS propagation of the axial valley, from Afar triple junction, diversifies to the North of Tanzania in 2 (3) arms constituting the North Tanzanian Divergence (NTD). The volcanic activity from ~ 6 Ma upwards and the tectonic features of the rifting, have conditioned the sedimentation, climate variability and geomorphology, whose interaction has also led to the peculiar evolution of the landscape, flora and fauna and even the way of life of human groups that have settled the territory. In all, the NTD is a reference of great didactic value, where, in July 2011, the AEPECT (Spanish Association for the Teaching of Geology .) organized the workshop of Earth Sciences: Expedition through the Great Rift.
