    El objeto de este trabajo es reflexionar acerca de la autonomía del paciente en tiempo de pandemia. En concreto, en la cuestión de la posible limitación de la autonomía del paciente en virtud de la existencia de un interés público a la salud que estaría por encima del interés individual del paciente.

    The principle of patient autonomy has been highlighted by the pandemic brought on by Covid 19. There is a concern that in the absence of informed consent, any treatment via the administration of medication of doubtful or marginal beneficial effect and with possible side effects will be considered malpractice and in violation of patient autonomy. It would be a different matter if the proposed vaccine treatment could be said to offer a definitive and proven benefit and the patient were to refuse to have it. Vaccination in our system of law is voluntary and requires informed consent although it can be mandated with judicial authorisation on grounds of public health interest.However, the imposition of a coronavirus vaccination elicits numerous doubts. Given that the effectiveness of the vaccines has not yet been proven over time, their enforced administration could be said to amount to a disproportionate measure.
