    El propósito de este estudio es el de esbozar la historia léxica de la voz zaino, mediante ejemplos de uso antiguos y actuales y un contraste con su inserción en la lexicografía, con el fin de reflexionar particularmente sobre la extensión que tiene en la actualidad su segunda acepción, la que se refiere al color oscuro. En este recorrido histórico nos proponemos reflexionar sobre el cambio lingüístico, la dilogía y las posibilidades fraseológicas que vino brindando el adjetivo zaino, hasta las atestiguaciones actuales, que muestran una ampliación de los referentes, ya que, además de aplicarse –como en épocas anteriores– a los caballos y a los toros, el adjetivo se observa en descripciones de objetos y de partes del cuerpo del ser humano.

    The purpose of this study is to outline the lexical history of the adjective zaino, using examples of old and current use and a contrast with its insertion in the lexicography, in order to reflect particularly on the extension that its second meaning (‘dark color’) has at present. In this historical exploration we intend to reflect on the linguistic change, the amphibology and the phraseological possibilities that the adjective zaino offered, up to the current testimonies, which show an enlargement of the referents. Indeed, nowadays the adjective is also observed in descriptions of objects and parts of the human body and not only applied to horses and bulls, as in previous times.
