Thirty-one papal decorations were conferred in Andalusia between 1854 and 1927. These titles of nobility and marks of honour were distinctions that the papal court granted to Andalusians. They made up a distinctive catholic group of knights and noblemen whose titles were cunsidered to be foreign. They had no court but significant influence not only on the economic and political domains, but also on the social sphere, which was of great importance in the aforementioned Spanish region. Nevertheless, this group as such has barely been studied from the historical point of view. This paper reveals its relevance and paves the way to interesting views about papal politics and the papal court.
