    La naturaleza jurídica del pomerium y la función que desempeña en la topografía política de Roma son cuestiones que siempre han suscitado la atención de la literatura especializada. Su condición de templum en el sentido preciso que este término posee en el Derecho Augural y sus relaciones con otros límites territoriales (primer miliario, ager Romanus antiquus) constituyen aspectos que deben ser tenidos en cuenta. El "descubrimiento" por parte de la arqueología más reciente de una Roma proto-urbana, anterior a la Roma ciudad-Estado, afecta también a la comprensión del pomerium.

    The legal nature of the pomerium and the role it plays in the political topography of Rome have always been attractive subjects for specialist researchers. . 0} The pomerium’s status as a templum, in the strictest sense of the term when used in the context of augural law, and its relationship with other territorial boundaries (the first milliarium, ager Romanus antiquus) are aspects worthy of consideration. Our understanding of the pomerium is also affected by the “discovery”, during the most recent archaeological explorations, of a proto-urban Rome which predates the more familiar city-state.
