Resumen de La Antártida: la vida al límite, en los confines del planeta

  Históricamente ha representado un desafío infranqueable para los humanos tanto llegar a la Antártida como permanecer en ella, y sólo gracias a los avances tecnológicos, y con un esfuerzo logístico considerable, se han podido establecer asentamientos con apariencia de normalidad. No obstante, desde todos los puntos de vista, se trata de un continente sumamente hostil; sin duda alguna aquel en el que la vida está sometida a más dificultades dadas las características intrínsecas a su medio natural, por otro lado muy valioso y bien conservado, aunque no exento de riesgos, como por ejemplo los relacionados con el progresivo calentamiento del planeta. En la actualidad, y la firma del Tratado Antártico en 1959, se trata de un lugar verdaderamente singular, el primer continente desmilitarizado, sin fronteras, y consagrado a la Ciencia.

  Historically, it has represented an insurmountable challenge for humans both to reach Antarctica and to stay in it, and only thanks to technological advances, and with considerable logistical effort, have it been possible to establish settlements with the appearance of normality. However, from all points of view, it is an extremely hostile continent; undoubtedly one in which life is subjected to more difficulties given the intrinsic characteristics of its natural environment, on the other hand, very valuable and well preserved, although not exempt from risks, such as those related to the progressive warming of the planet. At present, and the signing of the Antarctic Treaty in 1959, it is a truly unique place, the first demilitarized continent, without borders, and consecrated to Science.
