Todas las enfermedades que afectan las capacidades cognitivas nos llevan al límite de la comprensión del otro, al borde de la condición humana. Alzheimer empuja más allá; que borre las huellas de nuestra memoria, los recuerdos que dan continuidad a una biografía, estabilidad a nuestro caminar y lazos a nuestras relaciones, exige al enfermo y a sus acompañantes una tarea excepcional: aventurarse tras las fronteras de lo perdido, cruzar el sinsentido para re-nombrar lo que no tiene palabra, “traspasar” la incapacidad para re-descubrir a la persona que sigue existiendo. Alzheimer nos propone que re-definamos nuestros límites, todos, sin excepción.

All diseases that affect cognitive abilities take us to the limit of understanding the other, to the edge of the human condition. Alzheimer’s pushes further; the fact that it erases the traces of our memory, the remembrances that give continuity to a biography, stability to our path and ties to our relationships, requires the patient and his companions an exceptional task: to venture beyond the borders of the lost, to cross the nonsense to re -name what has no word, to “trespass” the inability to re-discover the person who continues to exist. Alzheimer proposes that we re-define our limits, all of them, without exception.
