Nello studiare quanto accadde sui ponteggi montati davanti al Cenacolo tra il 1947 e il 1953, ove Mauro Pellicioli intervenne assieme all’Istituto Centrale del Restauro, mi è parso impossibile comprendere le ragioni delle scelte compiute senza allargare lo sguardo. Il contributo mira quindi ad indagare i nessi tra il momento del restauro e la rilettura critica dell’arte di Leonardo operata nel secondo dopoguerra; tra le scelte tecniche intervenute sul corpo del dipinto e linguaggi visivi contemporanei, fra cui il cinema; tra il recupero di un capolavoro dominato dal

Studying the work of restoration undertaken by Mauro Pellicioli along with the Isti-tuto Centrale del Restauro, between 1947 and 1953, it seemed to me impossible to in-terpret the choices made without putting them into a broader perspective. The contri-bution therefore aims to investigate the links between the moment of restoration and the critical reinterpretation of Leonardo’s art carried out after the Second World War; the connections between the technical choices taken on the body of the painting and the visual languages of contemporaneity, including cinema; the mutual interactions between the recovery of a masterpiece ruled by the passions of the human soul and the need to regain confidence in human beings.
