  This article proposes that a sculptural fragment preserved in the Museu Comarcal de l'Urgell-Tàrrega, a large head of the Virgin Mary located in Tàrrega on the occasion of works carried out in a house located in the vicinity of the castle, be part of the dissected limbs of the defunct Gothic portal of the old church of Santa Maria. The style of the fragment is that of the Master of Anglesola, the most important artist involved in the project of making the sculptures that beautified the portal. To this must be added that its dimensions are in line with those of the apostles preserved in the Tarragona museum from the same portal.

  These coincidences lead us to conclude that the head of the Virgin Mary could be the only preserved vestige of the Virgin and Child who presided over this access to the temple until 1709, when the portal was dismantled as a result of an earthquake that occurred years ago. before . From that moment on, the trace of this sculpture is lost

  En el present article es proposa que un fragment escultòric conservat al Museu Comarcal de l'Urgell-Tàrrega, un cap de marededéu de grans dimensions localitzats a Tàrrega amb motiu d'unes obres efectuades en una casa situada en les immediacions del castell, formi part dels membra disjecta de la desapareguda portalada gòtica de l'antiga església de Santa Maria. L'estil del fragment és el propi del Mestre d'Anglesola, l'artista més important implicat en el projecte de realització de les escultures que embellien el portal. A això cal afegir que les seves dimensions s'ajusten a les dels apòstols conservats al museu targarí procedents de la mateixa portalada.

  Aquestes coincidiències ens fan concloure que el cap de marededéu podria se l'únic vestigi conservat de la Mare de Déu amb el Nen que va presidir aquest accés al temple fins el 1709, quan la portalada fou desmuntada com a conseqüència d'un terratrèmol ocorregut anys abans . Des d'aquell moment, es perd el rastre d'aquesta escultura
