The aim of this study was to examine differences in motivation for physical exercise among adolescent males and females. A sample of 378 adolescents from Granada, 205 men and 173 women, from 12.5 to 15.5 years of age completed the Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire ( BREQ -3). The results of a factor MANCOVA (age as covariate) showed that there were statistically significant differences between men and women (p < 0.001). Subsequently, univariate analysis showed that males reported greater intrinsic motivation, integrated regulation, identified and introjected regulation and than women (p < 0.01). However, no statistically significant external regulation and amotivation (p> 0.05) differences were found. In promoting physical exercise should be taken into account the knowledge of the motivational factors that lead, strengthen and facilitate the practice in adolescent boys and girls.
