Resumen de El obispo Pascual Díaz Barreto en las negociaciones de paz en la guerra cristera en México, 1926-1928

  Pascual Díaz Barreto, obispo de Tabasco, fue la cabeza visible del ala moderada del Episcopado Mexicano durante la Guerra Cristera en México de 1926 a 1929. Desde un inicio se entrevistó con el presidente Plutarco Elías Calles, con los enviados de éste para negociar, con el candidato presidencial e, incluso, enfrentó a los propios miembros del Clero mexicano que representaban el ala radical y apoyaban el conflicto armado. El objetivo es reseñar los pasos que emprendió Díaz Barreto para encontrar una solución pacífica al enfrentamiento entre Estado e Iglesia; primero, como Secretario General Episcopal, luego desde el exilio y finalmente como Intermediario Oficial nombrado por el Papa Pío XI. Aunque el artículo no abarca la solución, los llamados Arreglos entre las jerarquías eclesial y política del país, sí deja al descubierto la capacidad negociadora del Obispo de Tabasco para restaurar la paz en México y finalizar la Guerra Cristera. Asimismo, con la aportación de documentos de primera mano –oficios y correspondencia– se busca contribuir a tener un conocimiento más vasto y específico sobre el conflicto religioso, el cual, en el mayor de los casos, se aborda sin reparar en que hubo miembros de la élite eclesial, como el obispo Pascual Díaz Barreto, quien luchó por la paz, incluso, desde antes que la Guerra Cristera comenzara oficialmente el 31 de julio de 1926.

  Pascual Díaz Barreto, bishop of Tabasco, was the visible head of the moderate wing of the Mexican Episcopate during the Cristero War in Mexico from 1926 to 1929. From the beginning he interview with President Plutarco Elías Calles, with his envoys to negotiate, with The presidential candidate and even confronted the very members of the Mexican Clergy who represented the radical wing and supported the armed conflict. The objective is to describe the steps taken by Diaz Barreto to find a peaceful solution to the confrontation between State and Church; First as General Secretary Episcopal, then from exile and finally as Official Intermediary appointed by Pope Pio XI. Although the article does not cover the solution, the so-called Arrangement between the ecclesial and political hierarchies of the country, it let expose the negotiating capacity of the Bishop of Tabasco to restore peace in Mexico and end the Cristero War.Likewise, with the contribution of first-hand documents - trades and correspondence looking to contribute to a wider and more specific knowledge about the religious conflict, which, in most cases, is addressed without repairing that there were members of the ecclesial elite, such as Bishop Pascual Díaz Barreto, who fought for peace even before the Cristero War officially began on July 31, 1926.
