    Los relatos de los primeros viajes a lo largo del Amazonas, particularmente el de Gaspar de Carvajal y los de la expedición emprendida por Ursúa, narran la aventura del descubrimiento de un territorio desconocido y maravilloso, pero suponen sobre todo un rico compendio de relaciones de naturaleza administrativa y protocientífica en las que se describen medios de transporte y formas de logística militar. Se presentan de este modo como parte integrante de la infraestructura del imperio. Pero, ante todo, son meditaciones sobre los nuevos modos de poder soberano, descrito por primera vez de manera explícita un siglo más tarde por Hobbes; un poder que consiste en acelerar el envío de tropas, funcionarios, navíos y armas, así como en establecer circuitos de feedback.

    The stories of the first trips along the Amazon, particularly that of Gaspar de Carvajal and those of the expedition undertaken by Ursúa, narrate the adventure of the disco-very of an unknown and marvelous territory, but above all represent a rich compendium of administrative and proto-scientific writings describing means of transport and forms of military logistics. In this way they are an integral part of the empire’s infrastructure. But, above all, they are meditations on the new modes of sovereign power, first described explicitly a century later by Hobbes; a power that consists in accelerating the sending of troops, officials, ships and weapons, as well as in establishing feedback circuits.
