La escritura de los notarios públicos de nombramiento episcopal en el área central de Asturias: siglos XIII y XIV

    En este artículo se analiza la escritura de las oficinas notariales en las jurisdicciones episco-pales ovetenses en el centro del territorio asturiano durante parte de la Baja Edad Media. Con ello se pretende contribuir al estudio de la evolución de los tipos gráficos góticos en la Asturias bajomedieval en un entorno rural, pero también conocer cómo y dónde se produce el aprendizaje de la escritura, así como las posibles relaciones de escuela entre el notario titular y el personal que trabaja a su servicio. Nos servirá para determinar si en las notarías, además de transmitirse los conocimientos teóricos jurí-dicos y prácticos para el desempeño del oficio y la redacción de los documentos públicos, se ocupa de enseñar los rudimentos gráficos, esto es, si se da también una formación inicial escrituraria. Para ello se realiza el análisis paleográfico de la escritura utilizada en estos despachos notariales rurales a través de los instrumentos públicos originales conservados de la época de la implantación y consolidación del notariado. Por su volumen, destaca la producción documental de Nicolás Pascual, notario público en Las Regueras y Peñaflor, de la que extraeremos gran parte de nuestras conclusiones al ofrecer el resto de las notarías una imagen muy fragmentaria por la escasez de las escrituras localizadas para otros escribanos públicos.

    This paper analyzes the writing of the notarial offices in the episcopal jurisdictions of Oviedo in the center of Asturian territory during part of the Late Middle Ages. It’s intended to contribute to the study of the evolution of Gothic script types in Late medieval Asturias in a rural environment, but also know how and where writing learning occurs, as well as the possible school relations between the titular notary and the staff who work at his service. It will help us to determine if notaries are in charge of teaching graphic rudiments, that is, if a initial writing training is also given. For this, the palaeographic analysis of the writing used in these rural notarial offices will be carried out through the original public documents preserved from the time of the implantation and consolidation of the notary. Due to its volume, the documentary production of Nicolás Pascual, a notary public in Las Regueras and Peñaflor, stands out, from which we will extract much of our conclusions by offering the rest of the notaries a very fragmentary image by the shortage of notarised documents localized for the other public notaries.
