    La Orden de Santiago intervino en la conquista de Sevilla con un elevado núme-ro de efectivos, aunque no todos ellos eran miembros de la propia institución. Este numeroso contingente, bajo el mando del maestre Pelay Pérez Correa, ac-tuó como unidad independiente en Sierra Morena y más tarde en la margen derecha del Guadalquivir, protegiendo el flanco de la flota castellana. Ya en el verano de 1248, al maestre se le encomendó una nueva misión relacionada con cuestiones logísticas, por lo que hubo de intervenir nuevamente en Sierra Mo-rena con la mayor parte de su hueste, sin desatender por ello el cerco sevillano.
