    : If, in the second half of the 19th century, movements of inspirations and liberal ideals emerged based on the desire to desecrate society, however, in the 20th century the Church tries to (re)organize itself in this society that seeks to be another. Thus, the present text analyzes the Catholic Action group in the Diocese of Limoeiro do Norte, in the state of Ceará, from 1930 to 1954, trying to understand the role played by it and its implications to the different social dimensions. To this end, reflections were made based on the documents in the archives of the Episcopal Archive of Limoeiro do Norte, as well as through interviews carried out using the methodology of oral history, in addition to memorial books and Papal Encyclicals.

    Se na segunda metade do século XIX emergiram movimentos de inspirações e de ideais liberais baseados no desejo de dessacralização da sociedade, no século XX a Igreja respondeu tentando se (re)organizar nessa sociedade que se pretendia outra. Deste modo, o presente texto analisa o movimento da Ação Católica na Diocese de Limoeiro do Norte, interior do Ceará, nos anos de 1930 a 1954, tentando perceber o papel desempenhado pelo mesmo e suas implicações nas diversas dimensões sociais. Para tanto, teceram-se reflexões pautadas nos documentos dispostos no acervo do Arquivo Episcopal de Limoeiro do Norte, bem como em entrevistas realizadas a partir da metodologia da história oral, além de livros memorialísticos e Encíclicas Papais
