La cría caballar, Felipe II y Jaén

    Desde los tiempos de la reconquista los monarcas de los reinos peninsulares impulsaron y mantuvieron acciones constantes que favorecieron el auge de la cría caballar (La montura real [testimonios de los siglos VIII-XII]. Manuel Carriedo Tejedo. XXI Congreso Nacional y XII Iberoamericano de Historia de la Veterinaria. Baeza. 2015). Durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVI Felipe II adoptó medidas tendentes a conseguir una tipificación racial propia “el caballo español” y la consolidación ordenada de la cría caballar en sus reinos. Para ello ordenó en el año 1565 a Don Diego López de Haro y Sotomayor, I marqués de Carpio la fundación y jefatura de las Caballerizas Reales de Córdoba, consolidando en el sur de España esta actividad, primero en Córdoba y más tarde en Jerez y en las tierras de Jaén. En esta comunicación presentamos y analizamos una Real ordenanza emitida años antes con la que la autoridad real pretendía regular esta actividad. Se conserva en el Archivo Municipal de Lopera bajo el nombre de Real provision y ordenanzas para todos los pueblos del partido de Martos (Arjona, Arjonilla, Higuera de Arjona, Torredonjimeno, Porcuna y Lopera) otorgadas por Felipe II en el año 1562

    Since the time of the reconquest the monarchs of the spanish kingdoms drove and maintained constant actions favouring the rise of the horse breeding (The real mount [testimonies of the VIII-XII centuries]. Manuel Carriedo Tejedo. National Congress XXI and XII Ibero-American of veterinary history. Baeza. 2015). During the second half of the XVI century the King Felipe II adopted measures to get an own racial classification “the Spanish horse” and orderly consolidation of the horse breeding in their kingdoms. So the King ordered the foundation of the royal stables of Cordoba in the year 1565. Don Diego López de Haro y Sotomayor, I Marquis of Carpio was the head of this institution. In this way the consolidation of this activity was able in the South of Spain, first in Córdoba and later in Jerez and in the lands of Jaén. In this communication, we present and analyze a Royal Ordinance issued years earlier from the Royal authority intending to regulate this activity. It is kept in the Municipal Archives of Lopera under the name of Royal provision and ordinances for all peoples of the party of Martos (Arjona, Arjonilla, Higuera De Arjona, Torredonjimeno, Porcuna and Lopera) granted by Felipe II in the year 1562.
