    Entre 1904 y 1914 se llevó a cabo la Restauración Litúrgica de la Catedral de Mallorca, dirigida por Antoni Gaudí con la colaboración, entre otros, de Josep Mª Jujol. Destaca en esta intervención la decoración cerámica que forma parte primordial del mural creado para el ábside de la capilla Real. Esta intervención tiene dos características singulares, por una parte destacamos el hecho de que no se trata de una intervención ex novo, sino que se actúa sobre una obra gótica preexistente de la que aprovechan algunos elementos; por otra parte queremos destacar los diferentes materiales y técnicas artísticas empleadas para su realización. La intervención de conservación-restauración ha sido proyectada, dirigida y ejecutada por conservadores-restauradores; aplicando criterios que incluyen los procedimientos de ejecución, los materiales y las herramientas a utilizar; así como todo el bagaje ético y conceptual que regula nuestra actuación.

    The ‘Liturgical Restoration’ of the Mallorca Cathedral took place between 1904 and 1914 and was orchestrated by Antoni Gaudí with the collaboration, among others, of Josep Mª Jujol. The highlight of this intervention is the ceramic decoration constituting the key element of the mural created for the apse of the Royal Chapel. This intervention has two unique characteristics; on the one hand we remark this is not an ex novointervention, but rather it operates on a pre-existing Gothic work of which it utilises some elements. On the other hand, we aim to outline the different materials and artistic techniques used in the process. The conservation-restoration intervention has been planned, conducted and executed by conservator-restorers applying criteria including the execution procedures and materials and tools to be employed, as well as all the ethical and conceptual background that guides our performance.
