Resumen de Visión Geográfica del Ciberespacio

Actualmente existen diversas conceptualizaciones sobre el ciberespacio, confirmando el escaso consenso en cuanto a su definición. El ciberespacio, al ser un entorno digital relacional, brinda muchas posibilidades de intercomunicación social; esto gracias, al proceso de virtualización que permite al usuario estar ‘aquí’ y ‘allá’ de forma casi inmediata. Sin embargo, no todos tienen accesibilidad a las tecnologías digitales, generando así una nueva noción: la segregación digital. El régimen espacio-temporal del ciberespacio —diferente al mundo físico— invita a pensar en un entorno digital sin jerarquías y sin centralidades, cuando en realidad hay una lucha desde diferentes frentes de poder. El ascenso del modelo digital ha motivado a algunos investigadores adentrarse al ciberespacio para analizar su naturaleza e infraestructura, así como los comportamientos sociales que surgen y se dan en entornos virtuales. Un buen ejemplo pueden ser los mundos virtuales, ya que poseen su propia geografía virtual —física y humana—.

At the moment diverse concepts exist on the cyberspace, confirming the little consensus as far as their definition. The cyberspace, to the being relational digital surroundings offers many possibilities of social intercommunication; this thanks, to the virtual process that allows the user to be `here' and `there' of almost immediate form. Nevertheless, all do not have accessibility to the digital technologies, generating therefore a new notion: digital segregation. The space-temporary regime of the cyberspace —different from the physical world— it invites to think about digital surroundings without hierarchies and centralism when in fact there is a fight from different fronts of power. The ascent of the digital model has motivated some investigators to enter itself to the cyberspace to analyze its nature and infrastructure, as well as the social behaviors that arise and occur in virtual surroundings. A good example can be the virtual worlds since they have their own virtual geography —physical and human—.
