    Es innegable el reconocimiento político y económico que goza la investigación en ciencias sociales y humanas en países donde el conocimiento científico y su transferencia han cimentado la base de su desarrollo y han tenido repercusiones de primer nivel en la vida de sus ciudadanos. En la República Federal Alemana, con una larga tradición en investigación científica, existen instituciones cuyos resultados y proyección internacional avalan la aceptación social de los investigadores y de sus disciplinas. La Leibniz Gemeinschaft es una red de instituciones científicas no universitarias que abarca la práctica totalidad de las ciencias; a ella pertenece el Leibniz Institut für Länderkunde, que se dedica a la investigación, promoción y divulgación de la Geografía. Una parte de sus archivos, así como los de otros institutos y centros de esta comunidad científica vinculados a las ciencias sociales y del territorio, están disponibles en Internet.

    It is undeniable political recognition and economic research has social and human sciences in countries where scientific knowledge and its transfer have built the basis of its development and its impact is first class in the lives of its citizens. In the Federal Republic of Germany, with a long tradition in scientific research, there are institutions which international projection and results support the social acceptance of the investigators and their disciplines. The Leibniz Gemeinschaft is a network of non-university research institutions covering almost all the sciences it belongs to the Leibniz Institut für Länderkunde, dedicated to research, promotion and popularization of Geography. Part of the archives of the Leibniz Gemeinschaft as well as from other institutes and centers of this scientific community linked to the social sciences and territory, are available online.
