La construcción del retablo de Corpus Christi de la Catedral de Mallorca siempre ha estado vinculada a la historia de una de las familias de mercaderes más relevantes de la sociedad mallorquina de principios del siglo XVII, los Anglès. Tradicionalmente se ha otorgado el merecimiento de la consecución del famoso retablo a la figura de Antoni Anglès, relegando a un inmerecido segundo plano la contribución de su hermano menor Joan Baptista Anglès.
Con el presente artículo queremos poner en valor la persona de Joan Baptista Anglès como promotor artístico y coleccionista, sin el concurso del cual, habría sido imposible la construcción del célebre retablo.

The construction of the Corpus Christi altarpiece of the Cathedral of Mallorca has always been linked to the history of one of the most important merchant families of the Mallorcan society of the early seventeenth century, the Anglès. Traditionally, the figure of Antoni Anglès has been awarded the achievement of the famous altarpiece, relegating the contribution of his younger brother Joan Baptista Anglès to an undeserved background. With the present article we want to value the person of Joan Baptista Anglès as patron and collector, without the help of which, the construction of the famous altarpiece would have been impossible.
