    Ecuador es un país que se está convirtiendo en un destino de importancia para realizar ecoturismo en áreas naturales protegidas. En este artículo presentamos un trabajo de campo realizado en la isla Santay (Ecuador) durante el año 2015, los resultados permiten determinar las características del turista que visita la isla, de tal suerte que se puede determinar el perfil sociodemográfico de los turistas que la visitan y permiten conocer las motivaciones que han tenido para visitarla. Destaca el eco-turista joven con nivel de educación superior que busca los espacios novedosos que le permitan desconectarse de lo cotidiano en un entorno que permita el contacto con la naturaleza. Se busca, mediante esta discusión, fomentar reflexiones y orientación a la gestión turística en el diseño y planificación de tácticas que promuevan directa e indirectamente la actividad mediante estrategias coherentes al tipo de turista que asiste y sus motivaciones.

    Ecuador is a country that is becoming an important destination for ecotourism in natural protected areas. In this article, we present a field work carried out in Santay Island (Ecuador) during the year 2015, the results allow to determine the characteristics of the tourist that visits the island, in such a way that the socio demographic profile of the tourists who visit it can be determined, as well as the motivations they have had to visit the island. It emphasizes a young and well educated eco-tourists that looks for the novelty of spaces that allows him to disconnect from the routine through the contact with nature. Through the discussion, it is sought to promote reflections and guidance to tourism management in the design and planning of tactics that directly and indirectly promote the activity through strategies consistent with the type of tourist that attends and their motivations.
