    El artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la actividad turística en América Latina y el Caribe en el periodo que comprende de 1945 al 2017. Aunque la investigación se centra en estudiar la evolución del turismo en tres países: Brasil, México y República Dominicana. Para ello se mencionan, a grandes rasgos, los elementos económicos, políticos y sociales tanto internos como externos que lo han impulsado así como las políticas turísticas que se han implementado para su fomento. La razón de elegir a estos tres países se debe a que el turismo de sol y playa juega un papel importante en su economía. Para una mejor organización el artículo se divide en tres apartados. En el primero se presenta un breve recuento de la actividad turística en Latinoamérica y el Caribe, en el segundo se analizan la evolución histórica que en el rubro de turismo han tenido Brasil, México y República Dominicana. En el tercero se señalan las similitudes y diferencias del acontecer en materia turística entre los países seleccionados.

    The article aims to analyze tourism activity in Latin America and the Caribbean in the period from 1945 to 2017. Although the research focuses on the evolution of tourism in three countries: Brazil, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The economic, political and social elements, both internal and external, that have given rise to it, as well as the tourist policies that have been implemented for its development, are mentioned in great detail. The reason for choosing these three countries is because sun and beach tourism plays an important role in their economy. For a better organization the article is divided into three sections. The first presents a brief account of tourism activity in Latin America and the Caribbean. The second one analyzes the historical evolution of tourism in Brazil, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. In the third, the similarities and differences of the events in tourism between the selected countries are indicated.
