    En el transcurso del proceso de colonización de la región Oeste de Santa Catarina situada en el sur de Brasil, iniciado en la primera mitad del siglo XX, la transformación en el paisaje fue acelerada por la acción antrópica. La deforestación fue intensificada por la instalación de madereras y aserraderos debido a la importancia económica de la venta de madera para el período. Además, las otras actividades económicas que surgieron en la región a partir de la segunda mitad del mismo siglo, como la agricultura y el monocultivo de árboles exóticos, contribuyeron a que la alteración ambiental fuera intensificada. El objetivo general de esta investigación consiste en investigar el proceso histórico de la transformación ambiental en el Oeste de Santa Catarina, en las décadas de 1960 y 1970, partiendo del análisis del modo de colonización de la región y de la actuación del Instituto Nacional de Colonização e Reforma Agrária (Incra) en el local. También buscamos identificar a lós diferentes grupos sociales que ocupaban la región y las actividades económicas desempeñadas por ellos para auxiliar en la comprensión del proceso de deforestación.

    During the process of colonization of the western region of Santa Catarina located in southern Brazil, in the first half of the 20th century, the transformation in the landscape was accelerated by anthropic action.

    Deforestation was intensified by the installation of timber and sawmills due to the economic importance of the sale of timber for the period. In addition, the other economic activities that emerged in the region from the second half of the same century, such as the agriculture and monoculture of exotic trees, contributed to the intensification of the environmental change. The general objective of this research is to investigate the historical process of environmental transformation in the west of Santa Catarina, from the 1960s to the 1970s, based on the analysis of the colonization of the region and the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform in the area. We also sought to identify the different social groups that occupied the region and the economic activities carried out by them to assist in understanding the deforestation process.
