    El propósito del siguiente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar el terremoto de 1835 en la ciudad de Chillán, comprender los discursos de las autoridades y de la población en torno al tránsito de una sociedad tradicional y de frontera a una que intenta insertarse a la modernidad material y económica.
