La mudez innombrable: verso e imagen en la poesía de Raúl Zurita

    Al final del libro titulado Zurita (2011) cristaliza un poema en el que confluye, casi en su totalidad, el pensamiento poético del chileno. El poema está compuesto por veintidós versos colocados, cada uno, encima de veintidós fotografías –originalmente tomadas por Nicolás Piwonka– de los acantilados de la costa norte chilena. La textura, la intensidad y la cadencia –los sonidos que el poema teje, así como sus sílabas tónicas, su rima y engarce de verso con verso–, urden un artificio poético que reclama la presencia de la fotografía ahí donde surge “la mudez innombrable”. En palabras del chileno, en el ensayo “Poesía y nuevo mundo” del libro Son importantes las estrellas (2017), se trata del “vislumbre de lo no dicho; de un corazón sin palabras atascado en el centro mismo de la vida” (29). “La mudez inmemorable”, a la que Zurita se refiere no sólo en la colección de ensayos, sino también en su poesía, constituye uno de los presupuestos más arraigados y entrañables de su pensamiento poético.

    At the end of the book titled Zurita (2011) a poem crystallizes in which the poetic thought of the Chilean comes together almost entirely. The poem is composed of twenty-two verses placed, each one, on top of twenty-two photographs - originally taken by Nicolás Piwonka - of the cliffs of the Chilean north coast. The texture, the intensity and the cadence - the sounds that the poem weaves, as well as its tonic syllables, its rhyme and crimp of verse with verse - build a poetic artifice that claims the presence of photography where “unnameable muteness arises. “ In the words of the Chilean, the essay “Poesía y nuevo mundo” from the book Son importantes las estrellas (2017), is about the “glimpse of the unsaid; of a heart without words stuck in the very center of life” (29). “The unmemorable muteness”, to which Zurita refers not only in the collection of essays, but also in his poetry, constitutes one of the most entrenched and endearing presuppositions of his poetic thought
