Resumen de Foreign companies in Spain (1911–1920)

  • Knowing the degree of presence of foreign companies in a territory is important to know the level of development of its economy. This chapter analyses the number of foreign companies in Spain in the second decade of the 20th century. Based on official data from the Ministry of Finance, published in Gaceta Madrid, on affiliation and capital of foreign corporations, the evolution of foreign investment in Spain for this period is explained. In addition, information on the countries, which have invested in Spain during the aforementioned decade, is provided, indicating the productive sector and its location. Finally, the work analyses the state of sectoral and regional concentration of foreign companies in terms of the investor, as well as their strategies of increasing protectionism in Spain.
