Hoteles Unidos, S.A. (HUSA) was the most important Spanish private hotel chain in the years before the tourism boom of the 1960s when Spain became a world power in tourism. It was promoted by the Gaspart family, hotel entrepreneurs from Barcelona who, in 1930, decided to set up this hotel chain, with establishments in different Spanish cities. Previously there had been other hotel chains, but more modest. Hence, this Chapter analyses the evolution of this company, the role of the different entrepreneurs who participated in it and the changing contexts in which it developed, namely Alfonso XIII’s monarchy, the Second Republic, the Civil War and the first Franco regime, that is, very different scenarios in a relatively short period of time.
