Una de las preguntas que nos planteamos en teoría de nudos es determinar si dos nudos son equivalentes. Para intentar responder a esta cuestión es útil considerar invariantes de nudos. La primera parte de este artículo consiste en una introducción a la teoría de nudos y al polinomio de Jones, un invariante que supuso un importante avance en la forma de estudiar esta teoría y construyó puentes con otras ramas de las matemáticas y la física. La segunda parte está dedicada a la homología de Khovanov. Se trata de un refinamiento del polinomio de Jones que da lugar a un invariante homológico.

One of the questions asked in knot theory is whether or not two knots are equivalent. Knot invariants are a useful tool in order to give a possible answer to this question. This paper starts with an introduction to knot theory and the Jones polynomial, an invariant that entailed a great advance in the study of this theory and built connections with other branches of mathematics and physics. The second part of the paper is devoted to Khovanov homology. This is an homological invariant, obtained by means of the Jones polynomial but which enlarges the information given by it.
