The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the disinformation on health issues to the forefront of social concern, both because of its potential direct impact on the loss ofhuman lives and because of the collective awareness that danger naturally raises. One year after the outburst of the pandemic, we compare two particular moments when viral disinformation content about COVID-19 arose in Portugal: one at the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, and the other more recently, in February 2021. In both those moments, there were certain pieces of information content that were first displayed in WhatsApp, then were shared on open social media networks, like Facebook or Twitter, and made it to the agenda of the news media. Which led us to pose this research question: “How have users and stakeholders evolved in their reaction to disinformation on WhatsApp in those two moments?” We aim to identify differences in those two momentsas it relates to the processes involved in spreading and sharing that content, as well as to the reactions of the users and stakeholders that are directly or indirectly related to the issue. Our main conclusion is that WhatsApp remains the privileged platform in Portugal for the dissemination of disinformation about COVID-19, but coupled with a growing awareness towards the issue and a greater involvement of the civic society in fighting it
