  • Resumen
    • Among the works of art in Hearst Castle (San Simeon, California) there is a reliquary bust of St. John the Baptist in silvered and gilded wood, bought by W.R. Hearst in 1927 at the auction in New York of the Madrid collection of Count de Las Almenas. Having linked the bust to others held at the Museo Nacional de Escultura in Valladolid coming from the convents of San Pablo and San Diego -both of which had been commissioned by the Duke of Lerma, "valido" under Philip III of Spain- the present contribution proposes that the sculpture be assigned to the Neapolitan artist Aniello Stellato, who was probably the author of a large number of these two series of Valladolid reliquaries (1606-1608), and advances the hypothesis of a possible connection with the collection in the convent of San Pablo.
