  Introducción. Actualmente tiene una relevancia significativa, para la formación oportuna de los futuros profesionales los estudios de pertinencia de las carreras, especialmente en el ámbito educativo, por la trascendencia que este proceso reviste en el desarrollo de la vida del hombre. Objetivo. Fundamentarla necesidad de la carrera Educación Especial a través del estudio de su pertinencia en la Universidad Estatal de Milagro (UNEMI). Metodología. Estudio descriptivo y transversal. Se utilizó el estudio documental, la encuesta (a cinco grupos de estudio) y la triangulación de instrumentos.Se utilizó el programa SPSS y medidas de tendencia central y de dispersión. Resultados. Tras el análisis y triangulación de los resultados obtenidos se pudieron establecer determinadas regularidadesque atentan contra la atención a la población investigada. Estas están relacionadas con problemáticas que obstaculizan la atención a las NEE asociadas o no a discapacidad yla falta de condiciones de los docentes para la atención educativa de los estudiantes con NEE asociadas o no a discapacidad.   Introduction. Currently relevant studies for the timely training of future professionals are relevant studies of careers, especially in the educational field, because of the importance that this process has on the development of human life. Objective. Base the need for the Special Education career through the study of its relevance in the Universidad Estatal de Milagro (UNEMI). Methodology.

  Descriptive and transversal study. The documentary study, the survey (five study groups) and the triangulation of instruments were used. The SPSS program and measures of central tendency and dispersion were used. Results After the analysis and triangulation of the results obtained, certain regularities could be established that undermine the attention to the population under investigation.

  These are related to problems that hinder the attention to the SEN associated or not to disability and the lack of conditions of the teachers for the educational attention of the students with SEN associated or not to disability. After the study, certain competences that must be developed by a Bachelor of Special Education were specified. Conclusions. The study carried out revealed the need to implement the Special Education course at UNEMI to provide answers to the population studied.
