  A mediados del s. XIX, la escuela francesa de flauta travesera era un referente mundial en la formación de grandes intérpretes. La ciudad de París, manifestaba su protagonismo cultural en entornos como la literatura o las artes plásticas, y se había convertido en un espacio de comunicación donde se daban cita los diferentes lenguajes artísticos de referencia. Por otra parte, las nuevas oportunidades que ofrecía su desarrollo urbano favorecieron la reunión de un número importante de artesanos-constructores del norte del país, convirtiendo la ciudad en la sede de los fabricantes de instrumentos de viento-madera mejor valorados a todos los niveles.

  Con relación a la flauta travesera, la búsqueda de un modelo óptimo dio lugar a la convivencia de diversos sistemas de digitación, contando cada uno de ellos con partidarios y detractores.

  Estas circunstancias convirtieron la estandarización del instrumento en un proceso largo y lleno de dificultades, donde participaron de una forma decisiva importantes constructores de flautas franceses y reputados intérpretes.

  In the middle of 19th century, French flute school was a big reference where the most important musicians wanted to train. The city of Paris was showing the cultural prominence in areas like the literature and the arts, and became a place where the artists of reference could met. On the other hand, the new opportunities offered by the development of the culture, favoured the meeting of an important number of builders from the north of the country, making the city the place with the most valued woodwind instrument builders. With the transverse flute, they looked for an optimal fingering model, gaving place to the coexistence of different fingering systems, with supporters and not supporters of each of them. These circumstances made the standardisation of the instrument a long and difficult process, where the most important French flute builders and renowned flute players, played a decisive role.
