    En tres ocasiones, el general Lamarque es destinado militarmente en España en contextos diversos: durante la Revolución francesa (1793-1795), durante la Guerra de las Naranjas (1801) y finalmente, durante la Guerra de Independencia (1811-1814). La experiencia adquirida durante estos conflictos favorecerá el desarrollo de su comprensión de la Península Ibérica, si bien no será capaz de resolver todas las cuestiones que se le plantearon. Finalmente, sus observaciones pertinentes sobre la Europa postnapoleónica afinan la agudeza con la que juzgará la viabilidad del Trienio Liberal, al contrario de las élites liberales francesas. El estudio de su trayectoria a largo plazo también nos permite reparar en la evolución o la confirmación de su perspectiva acerca de las acciones vis a vis de los españoles.

    General Lamarque was confronted militarily with Spain three times, each time in a different context: during the French Revolution (1793-1795), the War of the Oranges (1801) and the Peninsular War (1811-1814). The experience he gained during these wars made him better able to understand the Iberian Peninsula, without being able to solve all the problems he faced. Finally, his pertinent observations on post-Napoleonic Europe help him to better judge the viability of the Trienio Liberal, in contrast to the French liberal elites. The study of its trajectory over a long period of time thus makes it possible to perceive the evolution or confirmation of its gaze and actions with regard to the Spaniards.
