    Las inscripciones que se estudian han aparecido en diversos puntos de las islas en el territorio que gobernó la taifa medieval islámica de Denia. El epígrafe de la mayor parte de estas lápidas ha sido interpretado y editado, pero ha parecido oportuno abordar de nuevo ese material porque las noticias que todas esas piedras proporcionan ayudan a un mejor conocimiento del pasado islámico de Baleares en el siglo XI y por extensión de la Península. Era indispensable emprender nuevamente su análisis para aportar otra luz que en el futuro ayude a esclarecer las influencias políticas, sociales y religiosas en el conjunto de la zona oriental de la península y permitan reflexionar sobre las prácticas seguidas en relación con los rituales de la muerte.

    The inscriptions studied here have been found in different points of the Balearic Islands, a territory that was ruled in medieval times by the Islamic taifa of Denia. The inscriptions of most of these tombstones have been interpreted and edited, but it has seemed appropriate to study again this material because the news which all these stones provide can help to better understand the Islamic past of the region during the eleventh century and by extension that of the Peninsula. It was essential to carry on a new analysis in order to give some light to the political, social and religious influences throughout the eastern part of the Iberian Peninsula and to consider the practices related to the rituals of death.
