This is the first lipogrammatic translation of Book V of De aetatibus mundi et hominis, the oldest attestable lipogram. This composition is attributed to Fabius Planciades Fulgentius, better known as Mythographer, who would be an African writer belonging to Late Antiquity, having lived between the 5th and 6th centuries. It should also be noted that the proposed translation text is based on the critical edition established by the Latinist philologist Rudolf Helm (1898). In this fifth section of the work, Fulgentius condemns the sin of envy by poetically describing the biblical narratives of the brothers Esau and Jacob and the sisters Lia and Rachel without using lexical units that present the letter ‘e’, which was maintained in our arrival text.

Esta é a primeira tradução lipogramática do Livro V da De aetatibus mundi et hominis, o mais antigo lipograma atestável. Essa composição é atribuída a Fábio Plancíades Fulgêncio, mais conhecido como Mitógrafo, que seria um escritor africano pertencente à Antiguidade Tardia, tendo vivido entre os séculos V e VI. Note-se, ainda, que o texto tradutório proposto é realizado a partir da edição crítica estabelecida pelo filólogo latinista Rudolf Helm (1898). Nesta quinta seção da obra, Fulgêncio condena o pecado da inveja descrevendo poeticamente as narrativas bíblicas dos irmãos Esaú e Jacó e das irmãs Lia e Raquel sem empregar unidades lexicais que apresentem a letra ‘e’, o que foi mantido em nosso texto de chegada.
