Language convergence and its influence on the phraseological fund

Resumen
Phraseological units (PUs) are a peculiar kind of language unit. They are known to be saturated with cultural information, because PUs always contain information about traditions, customs, culture, literature, and peculiarities oftbe character of the language's speakers. Analyses of PUs that are widespread in European languages show that units with the same meaning in different languages are based on different situations. On the other hand, similar idioms are found in diffcrent standard European languages between which there is neither genetic affiliation nor geographical contact In this paper we look at the English, Russian and Tetar hmguages, which belong to different language groups (Germanic, Slavonic, Turkic). Analysis of the phraseological funds of these languages demonstrates the existence of many shared idioms. This is due, in the first place, to the universal phenomena upon which phraseological funds in all languages are based; secondly, it is no doubt a result of the globalization process. Less dominant languages appear to hove borrowed PUs from more dominant ones. In the process of language developmenl these have displaced native idioms and becomc more popular than them.
