Germanico e gli archi tiberiani nel foro di Augusto

    The twin arches dedicated to Germanicus and Drusus Minor in the Forum of Augustus were commissioned by Tiberius and dedicated by the Senate. They inaugurate the series of similar arches in coloniae and minicipii, differing in very specific characteristics, both for the particular location in the circumscribed area of the Augustan Forum and for the original decoration of the archivolt. The two brothers "enter” with their bronze effigies on the crowning of the arches into the Forum, characterised by its function as a piace linked to the triumph and the omamenta triumphalia, by the galleries of the triumphers and the summi viri.

    The contribution deals for the first time in a systematic way with the archaeological emergencies of the arches, examining in detail the structural parts and architectural elements stili in piace, including the three fragments relevant to the decoration of the archivoit, drawing the main structural data and a preliminary-schematic reconstructive proposal.

    The iconographic motif of the archivoit consists of acorns and oak leaves. In this regard, the synthesis of the knowledge about the figure of Germanicus and his links with the Forum and especially with the Temple of Mars Ultor, the analysis of the documentation relating to the tradition and use of the oak crown both in the sacred and civil spheres, the re-examination of the inscription attributed to Drusus Minor (actually also attributable to Germanìcus), the findings in the arrangements for celebrating Germanicus post modem lead to see a strong logica) and celebrative link in the choice of the oak crown motif as a civic crown. In the Julio-Claudian statuary cycles we find some portraits of Tiberius and Germanicus with oak wreaths on their heads that seem to confirm (although they may have been made postmortem) the not only decorative but strongly symbolic choice of the oak crown on the arch.

    Gli archi gemelli dedicati a Germanico e Druso Minore nel Foro di Augusto, voluti da Tiberio e dedicati dal senato, aprono la serie degli archi analoghi in colonie e municipi, ma con caratteristiche molto specifiche sia per la collocazione in margine all'area circoscritta del foro augusteo, sia per la tipologia della decorazione dell'archivolto.: I due fratelli "entrano" con le loro effigie in bronzo sul colmo degli archi nel Foro caratterizzato dalla funzione di luogo legato al trionfo e agli omamenta triumphalia, dalle gallerie dei trionfatori e dei summi viri.

    Il contributo affronta per la prima volta in modo sistematico le emergenze archeologiche, esaminando in dettaglio le fondazioni dell'arco settentrionale, i singoli blocchi appartenenti alla struttura portante di quello meridionale, e i tre frammenti pertinenti alla decorazione dell'archivolto, traendone i dati strutturali preliminari e una prima proposta di ricostruzione.

    L'archivolto presenta quale motivo decorativo racemi di quercia con ghiande. La sintesi delle conoscenze sulla figura di Germanico e i suoi legami con il Foro e soprattutto con il Tempio di Marte Ultore, l'analisi della documentazione che riguarda la tradizione e l'uso della corona querceae sia in ambito sacrale sia civile, il riesame dei dati dell'iscrizione attribuita a Druso Minore (che invece potrebbe essere attribuita a Germanico), i riscontri nelle disposizioni per celebrare Germanico post mortem portano a vedere un forte' tolleimento logico e celebrativo nella scelta del motivo della corona di querce quale corona civica.;tklcuni ritratti presenti nei cicli statuari giulio-claudi con corona di querce sul capo di Tiberio e Germanico sembrano avvalorare (sebbene siano forse realizzati post modem) la scelta non solo decorativa ma fortemente simbolica della corona querceae sull'arco.
