This article assesses the governance challenges related to the environmental conflict occurred in the protected area of the Yaigojé-Apaporis National Natural Park, where a gold mining title was established. This text argues that in this environmental dispute there is an institutional fragmentation and an extractivist management of natural resources, which affects significantly the main dimensions of a fair governance. Moreover, the paper addresses the need to promote the indigenous cultural heritage as vital in the environmental sustainability.
