    Se analiza la remesa que el obispo Martínez Compañón hizo al rey Carlos III, en febrero de 1788, de un Mapa General de la Diócesis de Trujillo del Perú. El mapa va fechado el 1º de octubre de 1786 e incluye una cartela barroca con el escudo de España, una dedicatoria al rey y una Carta General. En esta carta Compañón no solo describe las riquezas que atesora la diócesis, en cuanto a minerales, agricultura, ganadería y fauna y flora en particular, sino que anuncia que está preparando una historia general de la diócesis, con “colección de estampas”, que es lo que finalmente conformará el Códice Martínez Compañón (Truxillo del Perú en el siglo XVIII). Analizamos las tres copias originales que de dicho mapa se conservan en la British Library de Londres y en el Museo Naval de Madrid, respectivamente.

    We analyze the general Map of the Bishopric of Trujillo of Peru that Bishop Martínez Compañón sent to King Charles III of Spain, in February 1788. It is dated October 1, 1786 and it includes a baroque frame with the coat of arms of Spain, a dedication to the king and a general letter to him. This letter not only describes the riches of the bishopric, in terms of minerals, agriculture, livestock and fauna and flora in particular, but Bishop Compañón also discloses that he is preparing a general history of the diocese, which is what finally will become the Codex Martínez Compañón (Truxillo del Perú en el siglo XVIII). We analyze three original copies of this map, which belong to the British Library of London and the Naval Museum of Madrid, respectively.
