Resumen de “Electra se convirtió en el grito de guerra”. Una aproximación a las reacciones del estreno cordobés de la obra teatral de Pérez Galdós

El 19 de mayo de 1901 se estrenaba Electra de Pérez Galdós en la ciudad de Córdoba. La pieza teatral fue montada durante tres noches seguidas y Córdoba fue escenario de enfrentamientos violentos entre los asistentes y la policía. Analizar la puesta en escena de una obra teatral como Electra y sus repercusiones puede ser una interesante rendija para dilucidar parte del panorama social, cultural y político de la ciudad en los albores del siglo XX. En este trabajo analizamos cómo reaccionaron los cordobeses en ocasión del estreno de aquella emblemática y candente pieza teatral y, a la vez, qué nos dicen esas reacciones de la sociedad cordobesa en general. Con el mero análisis de la recepción de Electra posiblemente no podamos comprender de manera cabal ciertos consumos y hábitos culturales de los cordobeses. Sin embargo, creemos que lascontroversias y reacciones desatadas permiten dilucidar, en cierta medida, los contextos que posibilitaron la ocurrencia de este fenómeno.

On May 19th 1901 Pérez Galdós’ Electra was first showcased in Córdoba. It was showed for three nights in a row and Córdoba became a stage for violent confrontatios between the public and the police. Analizingthe staging of a play such as Electra and its repercutions can be an interesting way to clarify part of the social, cultural and political landscape of the city in the beginnings of the 20th century. In this article we analise how the cordobesian people responded to this singular play and what these reactions say about Córdoba societyin general. With the mere analysis of the reactions to Electra we may not be able to properly recreate the cultural and consumer habits of cordobesians. However, we believe that these controversies allow, to a certain point, to understand the context that allowed this particular phenomenon.
