The presence of pyrophyllite in the different horizons of a Ultic Haploxeralf soil developed on devonic shales has been studies. The soil is located in Huelva (Spain). The pyrophyllite has been isolated from the rest of minerals, esceptu rutile, by a method previously developed by the authors. The pyrophillite in this soil has been identified as ITc type by means of X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis, termogravimetry, infrarred spectroscopy and chemical analysis. The origin of the pyrophyllite in the soil studied is likely to be the parent material, as it has been detected in the devonic shale.
