La investigación en el pregrado: evaluación de su calidad a través de las tesis

    Objetivo. Se evaluó la calidad de las tesis en la carrera Ciencias de la Información en la Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas.Diseño/Metodología/Enfoque. Se combinaron técnicas bibliométricas con el análisis documental. Se emplearon dos criterios para evaluar la calidad de las tesis: (1) la forma de ejecutar la investigación y (2) el tema indagado. Se definieron un grupo de 13 indicadores, unos de carácter bibliométricos y otros de contenido, referidos a las metodologías empleadas en las tesis.Resultados/Discusión. Con respecto a la forma de ejecutar las investigaciones, se obtuvieron resultados regulares debido a las dificultades en el diseño metodológico de las tesis analizadas, la no definición de las técnicas específicas en los métodos empleados, y la baja cotutoría del claustro de profesores. Con respecto al tema indagado, los resultados fueron evaluados de regular igualmente. Las principales dificultades se concentraron en los parámetros del índice de Price y el semiperíodo de vida, donde la actualidad de las referencias no fue adecuada en los cursos 2012-2013 y 2013-2014. Los autores más referenciados del top 10 pertenecieron al contexto nacional (70%).Conclusiones. Se evaluó la calidad total de las tesis de regular, dado que de los 13 indicadores, 6 fueron evaluados de regular y mal. La forma de ejecutar la investigación, como criterio evaluativo, presentó mayores dificultades que el tema indagado.Originalidad/Valor. Primer acercamiento a la calidad de la investigación del pregrado en la carrera Ciencias de la Información donde se combina indicadores cuantitativos y cualitativos. El valor fundamental radica en la utilización de los resultados para futuras investigaciones sobre criterios de calidad de la investigación en el entorno académico.

    Objective. The quality of the theses in the Information Sciences career at the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas was evaluated.Design/Methodology/Approach. Bibliometric techniques were combined with the documentary analysis. Two criteria were used to evaluate the quality of the theses: (1) the way of executing the research and (2) the topic investigated. A group of 13 indicators was defined, some of bibliometric nature and others of content, referring to the methodologies used in the theses.Results/ Discussion. Regarding the way of executing the research, regular results were obtained given the difficulties in the methodological design of the analyzed theses, the lack of definition of specific techniques in the methods used, and the low co-mentoring of professors from the department. With respect to the topic investigated, the results were regular as well. The main difficulties were concentrated in the parameters of the Price index and the half-life period, where the relevance of the references was not adequate in the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 courses. The most referenced authors of the top 10 belonged to the national context (70%).Conclusions. The total quality of the theses was evaluated of regular, given that of the 13 indicators, 6 were evaluated as regular and bad. The way of executing the research, as an evaluative criterion, presented greater difficulties than the topic investigated.Originality/Value. First approach to the quality of undergraduate research in the Information Sciences career where quantitative and qualitative indicators are combined. The main value lies in the use of the results for future research on quality criteria of research in the academic environment.
