Resumen de Amor a dos Tiempos: Gary Soto con “Oranges” y Shei Silverstein con The Giving Tree

En 2019, con motivo de los festejos de la UAM por sus cuarenta y cinco años de vida, tuve la oportunidad de hablar y ejemplificar el trabajo que hacemos los profesores de lenguas extranjeras en nuestros cursos; es decir, ¿qué hacemos con el idioma? ¿Qué hacemos con ese vehículo maravilloso que nos permite contar nuestras historias e identificarnos de manera vicaria en las narraciones? En el siguiente artículo expondré y analizaré dos obras en inglés de autores estadounidenses de los siglos XX y XXI: Gary Soto y Shel Silverstein. Ambos se valen de la literatura en géneros diferentes: el primero con un poema, y el segundo con un cuento para dar su visión sobre el amor.

In 2019, due to the 45th anniversary at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, I had the opportunity to give a speech and some examples of the work we professors do in our foreign language classes. What do we do with a language? What do we do with that wonderful vehicle that allows us to tell our stories and identify ourselves in a vicarious way through narration? In this article I will show and analyze two literary works in English from Gary Soto and Shel Silverstein in XX and XXI centuries. Both of them give their vision about love through a different genre, the first writer with a poem, and the second one with a story.
