Sociedad y naturaleza en la mitología Muisca

    Analizando la mitología de los muiscas ilustraré cómo se trata de un discurso que puede guiar el comportamiento social porque esta constituido por un conjunto de abstracciones que, en el lenguaje simbólico, expresan el conocimiento de la sociedad sobre sus propias relaciones y de estas con la naturaleza. El análisis evidencia cómo el sol y la luna eran los símbolos dominantes no sólo por su importancia en el ordenamiento del tiempo y espacio del universo y, en consecuencia, en las tareas cotidianas, sino cómo su comportamiento pretendía ser explicado a semejanza de la estabilidad y variabilidad de las relaciones sociales.

    Argumentaré que esta analogía entre el comportamiento de los astros y las gentes constituye un operador lógico en el que descansa la simbología. Los mitos no son, pues, fantasía, ni en ellos «todo puede suceder». Son construcciones culturales que expresan en un discurso codificado, conocimientos de la experiencia que la sociedad debe seguir para garantizar su propia reproducción social.

    Through the analysis of the mythology of the muiscas I will illustrate how it is a discourse that can guide the social behavior because it is build up by a set of abstractions that, in the symbolic language, it can express the knowledge of the society on the basis of their own relationships and of these with nature. My lecture evidences how the sun and the moon were not only the dominant symbols because of its importance in the classification of the time and space of the universe and, in consequence, in the daily tasks of the society, but how its behavior pretended to be explained to likeness of the stability and variability of the social relationships. I will argue that this analogy between the behavior of the celestial bodies and the people constitutes a logical operator in which the simbology rests. There by, myths are not fantasy nor «can everything happen in them». The myths are cultural constructions that express in a coded speech knowledge based on the experience that the society should follow to guarantee its own social reproduction.
