The incorporation of environmental, social and governance factors, usually grouped for operational purposes under the acronym ESC, is having an increasing role in the evolution of all the segments of the financial markets —credit, capital markets and insurance—. Its current regulation, dominated by voluntary market standards, is partial and fragmented. That is why different initiatives, including those led by the European Union, are looking for the establishment of a consistent and integrated framework which allows the full development of new structures and the consolidation of a tendency which should be key for the financing of long-term and sustainable projects.
