    El deterioro global y la muerte en residencias geriátricas es una circunstancia frecuente. Pero para el familiar es una experiencia única. En la siguiente narrativa clínica, basada en un caso real, se muestra como la familia de una enferma de Alzheimer en fase terminal no solo niega la evidencia de empeoramiento y muerte inminente sino que culpa frecuentemente a los profesionales que la cuidan de su deterioro progresivo y las graves complicaciones del proceso creando un escudo defensivo para intentar liberarse del sentimiento de culpa. Conocer la posibilidad de estas circunstancias nos entrena en el manejo de estas emociones y en la necesidad de tratar esos sentimientos y las creencias que los sustentan, para ayudar a esos familiares a aceptar mejor el grave deterioro y el desenlace final y al mismo tiempo nos previene de posibles malentendidos.

    Global impairment and death in nursing homes happen lots of times. But for the family is the only one time. We show, in the following narrative based on a real case, how the family of an Alzheimer patient terminally ill not only denies the evidence but blame the professionals who take care of her about impairment and serious complications of this. In this way they build a defensive shield in order to attack and free themselves from guilt. It is important to Know that this may happen in order to be trained and be able to handle these emotions, these feelings and beliefs that support them. This way we will be able to help these families to accept the serious impairment and the final outcome and at the same time prevents us from possible misunderstandings.
