    El artículo describe de modo sintético la carrera del flautista y compositor italiano Achi-lle Malavasi en Iberoamérica entre 1848 y 1862. Su largo recorrido como travelling virtuoso estuvo marcado por la novedad de su instrumento: la flauta de sistema Boehm, de tubo cilíndrico y de metal, instrumento que, en esencia, es el utilizado masivamente en la actualidad. Las resonantes actuaciones de Malavasi con esta nueva flauta, amén de su repertorio y estilo belcantista, consti-tuyen el primer hito relevante, muy poco estudiado, de la interpretación de la flauta travesera en esa región del mundo.

    The article describes in a synthetic way the contributions to the flute performance in Ibero-America by the Italian flautist and composer Achille Malavasi, between 1848 and 1862. His long artistic journey was marked by the novelty of its instrument: the Boehm flute system, cylindrical tube and metal, an instrument that, essentially, is it widely used today. The successful performances by Malavasi playing this new flute, in addition to his repertoire and bel canto style, constitute the first relevant milestone, hitherto unknown, of the transverse flute performance in that region of the world.
