El Barrio adecuado a la industria del sexo en Quito: el objeto mutable y la urbe adaptativa

    La evolución de la ciudad de Quito tuvo su apogeo a mediados del siglo XX al romper su centro histórico estructurado y expandirse hacia sus bordes geográficamente delimitados. Es así como desde la década de los setenta, la infraestructura industrial que predomina en la zona norte de la ciudad se convirtió en un lienzo para la inclusión de la industria del sexo. La tipología del Motel como objeto mutable fue insertado en un entorno que le permitió adaptarse y transformar de manera peculiar la condición del barrio industrial rodeado por contrastantes zonas residenciales. Se estudia así la interacción entre la forma urbana de este trozo de ciudad y la nueva vida de barrio que produce el Motel. En este artículo, el Barrio Motel es analizado desde sus cualidades históricas y normativas de desarrollo, así como a través de sus cualidades urbanas y morfológicas.

    The evolution of the city of Quito had its apogee in the middle of the 20th Century, breaking up its structured historical center and expanding toward its geographical edges. Since the 1970s, the industrial infrastructure that predominates in the northern part of the city has also become home to the sex industry. As a mutable object, the typology of the motel is inserted in an environment that allows it to modify and transform the industrial district, surrounded by the contrasting residential zones. This article analyzes the interaction between the urban form of this section of the city and the neighborhood life produced by the motel. The Motel Neighborhood is analyzed through its historical and normative development, as well as through its urban and morphological qualities.
